Happy Monday!

Welcome to the 74th edition of StormTeam 11 Starwatch! This is a blog that will be posted weekly that will list events happening in the sky this week!

Saturday, May 18th 2019

Tonight is the May Full Moon. This moon is called the Flower Moon (American Meteorological Society).

Additionally, at this time of year, after sunset there appears to be no Milky Way. This is because the Milky Way runs along the horizon, making it seem like we are aligned with it, and hence looking out of the galaxy. This allows us to see more far away galaxies with a telescope! Check out the image below to see what the sky will look like!

Special thanks to Adam Thanz from Bays Mountain Park & Planetarium and Dr. Gary Henson from ETSU for this information. Additionally, information from the May 2019 News for CBMs and Sealholders was used (American Meteorological Society).
