STORM TEAM 11
Deep tropical moisture continues to surge into the region today allowing for widespread showers. As of early this afternoon, scattered showers are developing through the Tri-Cities, with heavy downpours possible. Rain and storms will be very scattered in nature through the rest of today, with heavy rain as the main threat. Widespread rain is expected late this evening and into tonight.
With a low pressure meandering around the region this weekend along with a tropical-like atmosphere, areas of heavy rain will be likely. This does not mean the weekend will be a washout, but there will be times of wet weather.
There will be a flood risk this weekend with heavy rain likely in the region. The best location for flooding will be in the Blue Ridge Mountains of Western N.C., where an upslope wind combined with a tropical-like atmosphere will enhance the flood risk. Here in the Tri-Cities, downsloping winds look to minimize our flood risk, although heavy rain will still be possible.
