Storm Team 11 Starwatch: Monday, June 25th - Sunday, July 1st 2018

The Strawberry Moon is this week!

Happy Monday!

Welcome to the 31st edition of StormTeam 11 Starwatch! This is a blog that will be posted weekly that will list events happening in the sky this week!

Monday, June 25th - Sunday, July 1st 2018

Wednesday, June 27th 2018

Saturn is opposite the Sun in the sky tonight. Look for Saturn rising in the East while the Sun sets in the West, making the lighting of Saturn the most direct. Saturn will not set until sunrise. Saturn's rings are tilted open at almost 26 degrees, which is nearly the maximum possible from our line of sight. The Moon and Saturn will also be close to each other tonight. You will be able to see both using binoculars or a simple telescope! The images below show what to look for in the sky.

Thursday, June 28th 2018

The full moon occurs at 12:54 AM. This full moon is called the Strawberry or Rose Moon! The moon can sometimes have a reddish tint!
