A man faces charges after leading police on a chase in a stolen car and narrowly missing a head-on collision with a school bus in Virginia.
According to the Wise County Sheriff’s Office, Brendon Austin Caige Hill has been charged with DUI, fleeing law enforcement, possession of a concealed weapon, reckless endangerment, obstruction of justice, failure to drive right of the highway, failure to maintain control and resisting arrest.
According to a police report, a Wise County deputy was waved down yesterday after 3:30 p.m. near Kent Junction Road in Appalachia, Virginia for the report of a stolen car.
The deputy notified Wise County Dispatch to broadcast the stolen vehicle information.
As soon as the broadcast was given another deputy observed the vehicle on Birchfield Road in Wise.
The deputy attempted to stop the vehicle when the driver accelerated in an attempt to flee, according to investigators.
The report says the suspect drove in a reckless manner, passing a school bus and driving through a yard on Birchfield Road.
According to the report, Hill turned on to Stevens Street and the deputy observed another school bus coming toward them.
WSCO says the deputy used his patrol car to push the vehicle from the road to avoid the suspect from having a head-on collision with the school bus.
Hill then reportedly attempted to flee in the vehicle again, hitting a home, and then came to a stop.
The deputy was able to arrest two other subjects that were still in the car, while Hill attempted to leave the scene of the crash.
The Town of Wise Police and UVA-Wise College Police were able to capture the driver of the vehicle, Brendon Austin Caige Hill, a short distance away.
Hill told deputies he had “smoked a lot of meth earlier.”
Deputies recovered a firearm, methamphetamine smoking device, and unidentified pills.
Hill is currently being held at the Southwest Virginia Regional Jail in Duffield with no bond.
