UPDATE: Old Asheville Hwy reopened after rockslide

The Tennessee Department of Transportation says Old Asheville Highway in Unicoi County has reopened following a rockslide. 

The road was reopened Thursday night.

A section of US 19W, also known as Old Asheville Highway, is closed in Unicoi County due to a rockslide. 

The Tennessee Department of Transportation says the highway is completely blocked near State Route 36. 

TDOT is on scene and detours are in place. 

Sheriff Mike Hensley says it will take at least a few hours to clean up the slide.

TDOT spokesperson Mark Nagi says the highway will likely remain closed through noon Thursday.
