Boone Lake has received a donation of a boat to aid with upkeep.
Even though Boone Lake levels are down due to repairs being made to Boone Dam, there is still the problem of trash and other refuse that needs to be addressed on the water. Help is on the way as TVA has donated a surplus 24-foot War Eagle aluminum boat with 4-stroke Yamaha 150 engine to the Boone Lake Association to assist with their ongoing efforts to maintain Boone Lake.
“The significance of this contribution cannot be overstated in terms of our commitment to what is going on here and TVA’s commitment to the Boone Lake Association,”, Boone Lake Association President Val Kosmider said, “This boat represents a major step forward to us from our relationship with TVA. We’ve had an ongoing relationship with them for many, many years. We work very closely with them, but this takes it to a whole new level.”
TVA recognizes the Boone Lake Association’s mission of environmental stewardship of Boone Lake and this donation will help make their jobs a little easier. When the dam project is finished and the water rises for good, the group is expecting a larger than normal amount of trash for the first few months.
“As we approach 2021 and 2022, we expect the water levels to rise to full pool, we expect that there is going to be a mass of garbage and trash and refuse and you name it out there,”, Kosmider said, “This boat will allow us to address that problem, challenge, whatever you want to call it. It will be good for carrying people, it will be outstanding for carrying refuse and trash and things back to our on shore dumpsters.”
