A Tennessee High junior’s long list of accomplishments in the classroom, on the playing field and beyond was recognized by the U.S. Marines.

During a ceremony Friday at Tennessee High School, Lakeyln Ziegler was officially selected as a Semper Fidelis All-American which earned her an invite to the Battles Won Academy in the nation’s capitol.

Lakelyn was selected based on a number of her accomplishments inside the classroom, on the playing field and in the community. She told News Channel 11 she is already excited to bring new skills back to the Tri-Cities.

The four-day academy is an all-expense paid trip and will be held in Washington D.C. in July. Each invitee brings a mentor of their choice. They will participate in daily workouts, an immersive Marine Crops experience on base in Quantico, a community service event and a tour of the capitol.

Completion of the academy will make students eligible for select scholarship opportunities only available to program participants.
