Plans are still in the works for a possible Tennessee College of Applied Technology (TCAT) – Elizabethton extension campus in Washington County.
Tennessee Board of Regents spokesperson Rick Locker tells News Channel 11 that interest is still there to create a campus at the Boones Creek Elementary School.
“It’s definitely still there from all parties,” Locker said.
Locker said the elementary school is still going through an evaluation phase.
Once the phase is finished, officials would then look at the possible costs creating the new campus.
TBR is assessing the feasibility and cost of renovations of Boones Creek Elementary School to accommodate the desired programs like the installation of overhead doors for diesel and automotive training, additions to electrical and plumbing, and other renovations.
Local officials, including Washington County Mayor Joe Grandy and staff from TCAT – Elizabethton, met with Tennessee Governor Bill Lee in March to discuss the proposal, which was reportedly met with rave reviews.
An update on the proposed extension is expected in the coming months.
