TBI confirms victim’s identity in deadly Simerly Creek shooting

UPDATE: The victim has been identified in last night’s fatal shooting in Unicoi County. 

Tennessee Bureau of Investigation tells us that Larry Junior Morton was shot Saturday night in the 6300 block of Simerly Creek Road in the Town of Unicoi. 

TBI issued the following statement: 

In a joint investigation, the Unicoi County Sheriff’s Office and the Tennessee Bureau of Investigation are looking into the circumstances surrounding the death of a man in the 63-hundred block of Simerly Creek Road in Unicoi, Saturday.  An autopsy will be conducted to determine cause of death.  The deceased individual has been identified as Larry Junior Morton (DOB: 08/13/70).

One person is dead, another being questioned by investigators after a shooting Saturday night in Unicoi County, Sheriff Mike Hensley said.

We’re told that shooting happened at a business on Simerly Creek Road.

Dispatchers received a call of a possible shooting just before 8 p.m. Saturday, and officers arrived on the scene not long after.

The Tennessee Bureau of Investigation tells us they’re assisting the sheriff’s office in the investigation.

We’re told the suspect is at the Unicoi County Sheriff’s Office being questioned by the TBI.
