Suspected church vandal caught on camera, left ID at scene

WASHINGTON COUNTY, Tenn. (WJHL)- A Jonesborough man is facing felony charges after authorities said he burglarized and vandalized a church in the Limestone community.

According to Washington County, Tennessee Sheriff Ed Graybeal, Jeffery Wade Greene, 37, was arrested in this case after video surveillance showed him on the church’s property and the fact that he left his wallet and ID behind. 

Authorities said the Greene was caught on camera at Limestone Freewill Baptist Church in the early morning hours of May 13.

Greene caused damage to six heat pump units, ransacked several offices and classrooms and left behind wires and cables that had been torn out of the walls.

Were told a bible was also damaged with several pages ripped out.

Greene now faces charges of burglary, vandalism over $10,000, theft under $1,000 and one count of civil rights intimidation.

Greene was booked into jail on a $21,000 bond. He is due in court Tuesday.
