The Sullivan County Commission has approved funding for 20 additional full-time employees at the county jail.

The sheriff’s office will get $1,067,120 to pay for the new staff.

The resolution was overwhelmingly approved by county commissioners Thursday night.

It comes as the jail continues to deal with overcrowding. The facility has 619 beds but nearly 1,000 inmates.
