Changes are in store for the Sullivan County, TN Trustee’s Office.
Trustee Susan Ramsey tells News Channel 11 the satellite offices in Kingsport and Bristol have closed down until further notice due to the lack of interest.
“I did not feel that the offices were busy enough when it wasn’t tax season to merit keeping the office open,” Ramsey said. “I am taking this time, while it isn’t tax season, to evaluate the operations of the entire Trustee’s Office.”
Ramsey says the move is to ensure the office is in a sound financial area to better serve the public.
“It’s hard to find the exact balance between saving money and keeping the conveniences in place at the same time,” Ramsey said.
Ramsey says the Bristol office received very little traffic, even during peak tax season.
“Kingsport was busy during tax collection times, but otherwise, not so much,” Ramsey said. “I want to be the public servant that I was elected to be. I don’t want to be wasteful, but at the same time, I want the city residents to be taken care of.”
Ramsey says she will have something in place for Bristol and Kingsport residents for tax payments by the time tax notices are mailed for the 2019 tax season.
“Tax payments can be mailed, paid online and of course paid directly in our office,” Ramsey said. ” I have talked to some of our local banks, in Bristol and Kingsport, about taking tax payments during tax season.”
