Scholarship being established to honor Hampton High standout

One Carter County native’s legacy of giving back to others will continue to grow next month.

Organizers are putting the final touches together for the inaugural Logan Andrews Memorial Scholarship Bass Tournament at Watauga Lake.

The event is scheduled to take place Saturday, May 4, from 7 a.m. to 3 p.m. at Fish Springs Marina.

People are asked to register the day-of. The cost to participate is $50 per two-man boat.

Organizers are creating the event as a way to raise funds for a scholarship to remember the life of Andrews, who passed away Oct. 4 of last year.

Andrews was a multi-sport standout at Hampton High School, from racking in accolades on the gridiron to making runs with the high school’s basketball team in the postseason.

David Brumitt, one of the event organizers, said he spoke with Andrews’ family and they decided the best way to honor Logan’s life was to express his love of the outdoors. He says the goal is to give back to the community Logan loved.
