New ad campaign aims to prevent child vehicular heatstroke deaths ahead of summer

The National Highway Traffic Safety Administration is launching a $1 million public safety awareness ad campaign to prevent child vehicular heat stroke ahead of the coming summer months. 

Children dying of heatstroke in a car, either because they were left or became trapped, is at record levels. 

In 2018, 52 children died of vehicular heatstroke, the most in 20 years. 

The campaign will target several high-incident states, including Tennessee where 27 children died of vehicular heatstroke between 1998 and 2018. 

Tennessee ranks 11th among states with the high number of pediatric vehicular heatstroke deaths per capita.
