BRISTOL, Tenn. (WJHL)- High school students from across the region put solar power to use in a competition Tuesday at Bristol Motor Speedway.
Teams from 12 high schools turned their brain power into horsepower for a solar powered go-kart race at the World’s Fastest Half-Mile.
Those teams had to build a kart to absorb energy from the sun to charge their batteries.
The race measures which team could turn the most laps in a two-hour time period.
That solar go-kart challenge was open to the public.
News Channel 11 is still waiting to find out who took the top spot, last year the overall champion was Hampton High School.
