Kingsport City Schools to debut ‘Superintendent Story Time’ this summer

Kingsport City Schools will launch a new weekly program on their Facebook page this summer.

“Superintendent Story Time” will air live every Tuesday night at 8 pm in June and July on the school system’s Facebook page with Superintendent Jeff Moorhouse reading a book, showing the pictures, and talking about it live on camera.

“I was reading an article about another superintendent that was doing something similar to this in another part of the country and I thought that was a great idea and something to promote literacy,” Moorhouse said, “As families think about what activities do we do over the course of the summer and try to fill up those times, Tuesdays at 8 o’clock in the evening, families can say ‘hey, tonight is the night that we have storytime’ and they can make that a family event.”

Each episode will take place at a different elementary school in the city with eight total for the months of June and July. If you are not able to watch at 8 pm on Tuesday, it will be saved and can be viewed later on the system’s Facebook page.

“We’re going to be releasing this week the eight books that we will be doing over the course of June and July so if parents want to be able to pick up those titles that they can ahead of time and have them as part of their home library,” Moorhouse said.
