City leaders have approved rezoning a section of land at the corner of Eastman Road and Fort Henry Drive for future commercial development that may include a new pharmacy and restaurant.
In a 4-1 vote Tuesday evening, the Kingsport Board of Mayor and Aldermen approved the rezoning of about five acres of land along Memorial Court and Hemlock Lane. The rezoning includes six houses on Memorial Court and four houses on Hemlock Lane.
Alderman Jennifer Adler voted against the measure, while Alderman Colette George abstained.
The rezoning is an effort to accommodate new commercial development. A development plan shows a proposed pharmacy and restaurant at the corner of Eastman Road and Fort Henry Drive.
During a public hearing held last month, six people spoke against the rezoning effort while four spoke in favor of it, according to city records.
