Johnson City Commissioner Van Brocklin’s funeral set for Saturday

Johnson City Commissioner and former mayor Dr. Ralph Van Brocklin will be laid to rest Saturday, Sept. 15.

Van Brocklin died of an apparent heart attack over the weekend while running on the Tweetsie Trail. He was 63 years-old.

A spokesperson for Tetrick Funeral Services said a visitation will be held on Friday, Sept. 14 from 11:00 a.m. to 2:00 p.m. and from 4:00p.m. to 7:00 p.m. at Tetrick Funeral Services in the Sunset Chapel.

A celebration of life service will be held on Saturday, Sept. 15 at 11:00 a.m. at Tetrick Funeral Services in the Sunset Chapel.

Dr. Van Brocklin is survived by his wife Debroah and sons Hunter and Mark.

He was elected to the Johnson City Commission in 2011 and served as mayor from 2013-2015.

Johnson City City Attorney Jim Epps said out of respect to Van Brocklin’s family, the Johnson City Commission will wait until October to discuss his vacant seat on the commission. The commission can appoint someone to fill his seat until the seat is up for re-election in 2020.
