JCPD: Johnson City man charged with 5th DUI offense after Saturday morning crash

A Johnson City man is currently being held without bond after officers say he sped away from a traffic stop and later crashed on Interstate 26.

Alexis Maldonado Colon, 37, has been charged with driving under the influence (fifth offense), driving on a revoked (fourth offense) and is being held at the Washington County Detention Center without bond.

According to a report by Johnson City Police Department investigators, Colon was driving the wrong way in downtown Johnson City early Saturday morning.

Deputies say they attempted to stop Colon, who sped away seconds after stopping.

Colon later crashed into a cable barrier on Interstate 26 and came to a stop on Milligan Highway.

An investigation following the stop showed Colon was driving under the influence and that his license was revoked from a previous DUI. Colon also had an outstanding felony warrant from Sullivan County, Tennessee, for failing to appear in court.

Colon’s arraignment is set for Feb. 11.
