GATE CITY, Va. (WJHL)- A freshman at Gate City High School got a major surprise Thursday when she was presented with a car.
Kennedy Garrett just got her learners permit and already has a new ride.
She was one of more than 1,000 entries to win the Ford Focus, presented by Fairway Ford in Kingsport.
For every 9 weeks of school that a student had perfect attendance, they could enter their name to win the car.
Garrett was one of 57 students at Gate City who had perfect attendance.
“It’s just crazy to think you are young, you are growing, you are given a car from your high school, that’s so just crazy to think about…it’s amazing, I feel very honored and blessed to be the one that got this,“ said Garrett.
This was the first year for this contest. School leaders said they are already looking for a sponsor, so they can do this again next year.
Wadlow Gap Ruritan also raised $600 to help pay for taxes and tags for the vehicle.
