First responders help kick off Special Olympics in Johnson City

JOHNSON CITY, Tenn. (WJHL)- Thursday morning first responders took to the streets of Johnson City to help kick off the Area 3 Special Olympics

Community members joined local police, EMS and fire department personnel in the torch run.

That torch eventually made its way to the ETSU Mini Dome where athletes from Carter, Johnson, Unicoi and Washington counties got the chance to compete.

Around 500 Special Olympians displayed their talents in track and field and other relay events.
