A railroad worker who was killed in Chattanooga over the weekend was from Jonesborough according to a friend.
Allen Lowe died after he was struck by a train at the Wauhatchie rail yard.
Kelly Ball, a friend of Lowe’s, tells News Channel 11 she was supposed to see him at a cookout last weekend, but he never made it.
“Wow, I feel so lucky to have known him,” Ball said. “He was able to light up a room when he came in. He gave 24 years of his life to CSX, and I just truly hope that they make sure that this doesn’t happen again.”
She says Lowe was from Jonesborough. He was the father of two children, one of which is about to graduate from high school.
Following the incident, A CSX spokesperson sent out a statement:
Safety is CSX’s highest priority and our goal is for every employee to return home safely. Losing a fellow railroader is difficult for everyone at CSX, and we will conduct a thorough investigation to understand the cause of this incident.
