Contura Energy has announced the departure of CEO Kevin Crutchfield.
The company says Crutchfield will leave May 6 to pursue another opportunity outside the coal industry.
“Mr. Crutchfield’s departure is not the result of any dispute or disagreement with the company or any matter related to the company’s operations, policies, management, or board of directors,” Contura said in a news release.
The company’s board of directors has begun searching for a replacement.
Board chairman Neale Trangucci issued this statement regarding Crutchfield’s departure:
On behalf of our board, I want to thank Kevin for his steadfast leadership and numerous contributions made toward the company’s success during his many years with Contura and its predecessor companies. Kevin’s departure is not expected to change the company’s business strategy, including the plan to return capital to shareholders. While Kevin will be missed, we have every confidence in the management team to execute on the solid operating foundation already in place as we work to identify the best individual to lead our company forward for years to come.
