Congressman Roe criticizes Department of Veteran Affairs after non sterile medical equipment claims

Tri-Cities Congressman, Phil Roe, dished out harsh criticism today for the Department of Veteran Affairs following claims of non sterile reusable medical equipment.

A new report by the Government Office of Accountability(GOA) said the VA has a track record of failing to properly sterilize reusable medical equipment ranging from scalpels for surgery to scopes and other devices….exposing veterans to possibly life-threatening infections.

The hearing revealed that the jobs to sterilize medical equipment are low paying, with no long hiring process or room for job growth.

Congressman Roe, who was a doctor, was visibly upset by the findings of the report, saying he couldn’t believe the hearing was even necessary.

He also said some directors in the VA should lose their jobs.

“They need to go into another line of work if they cant get that done,” Roe said.

Roe concluded by saying he hopes this is the last time we have to hear about this.
