Charges pending after hit-and-run involving Elizabethton PD cruiser

UPDATE: A spokesperson for Tennessee Highway Patrol says charges are pending following a hit-and-run that happened today in Elizabethton, involving a police cruiser. 

According to THP, Elizabethton Police Department Officer Aaron Bennett was traveling south on North Sycamore Street around 7:30 a.m. where a green light was displayed. 

A second vehicle, driven by Jilian Sahibjohn was traveling east on East Elk Avenue and failed to stop at a red light, striking the cruiser. 

THP says Sahibjohn failed to pull over but was located several blocks away by EPD. 

Charges are pending against the woman, but no injuries have been reported.

An official with the Carter County Sheriff’s Office confirms they are working the scene of a hit-and-run in the downtown Elizabethton area. 

Officials say an Elizabethton Police Department cruiser was involved and that a suspect has been taken into custody. 

No injuries have been reported. 

Tennessee Highway Patrol is handling the investigation.
