Carter County seeks to fill vacancy on Commission, committee

The Carter County Commission is looking to fill two vacancies created after the death of Commissioner Rick Richardson.  

Richardson passed away in April and served as county commissioner for the county’s 8th District representing the Harold McCormick and High School precincts. He also served on the county’s Financial Management Committee.

During the June 17 meeting of the Carter County Commission, commission will vote to fill both vacancies.  

To serve on the County Commission, applicants must meet the following basic qualifications of state law:  

  • Be at least 18 years of age  

  • Be a citizen of the United States and of Tennessee  

  • Reside within and be a qualified voter of the 8th Legislative district of Carter County  

  • Not have been convicted in any court of a felony  

To serve on the Financial Management Committee, applicants must be a resident of Carter County.  

Individuals who would like to be considered for either or both positions should submit a Boards and Committees Application along with any other desired documentation or resume they would visit the Commission to review.  

All applicants for both positions will be given the opportunity to address the County Commission during the June 17 meeting at 6 p.m. in the courtroom at the Carter County Courthouse.  

Applications may be picked up at the County Clerk’s Office during regular business hours or downloaded from the county’s website at under the employment tab.  

Completed applications must be submitted to the County Clerk’s Office by 9 a.m. on June 12, 2019.
