It was a quick day at the office for the Carter County Rescue Squad.

Carter County Rescue Squad member James Heaton said two women were kayaking down the Watauga River today when their kayak was washed out, causing them to get stranded on an island near Lincoln Drive in Stoney Creek.

Heaton said crews were already in the water when the call came in, and that the rescue lasted around 10 minutes.

Both women are now back home with their families and are reportedly in good condition.

Heaton says this is the fourth rescue mission CCRS has performed this week.
