Buchanan County deputies investigating possible drowning after 61-year-old man found in pool

Buchanan County Sheriff’s Office is investigating a possible drowning after a 61-year-old man was found in a pool late last week. 

Deputies said they received a call about an unresponsive man in a swimming pool on Thursday, May 9 around 3:30 p.m in the Vansant area. 

First responders attempted to resuscitate the man, but he was pronounced dead. 

Upon further investigation, deputies discovered the man had been hired to clean the swimming pool and surrounding area of the house. 

Deputies said at some point, the man fell into the pool and drown. Foul play is not suspected. 

The man’s body was transported to the Office of the Chief Medical Examiner’s Office in Roanoke, VA for an autopsy. 

Deputies have not released the victims name, pending notification of the family.
