Bikers prepare for annual Omnium Race

JOHNSON CITY, Tenn. (WJHL) — Nearly 250 bikers will put their endurance and skills to the test this weekend as Northeast Tennessee prepares to host another Omnium Race.

Cyclists will compete in parts of Carter, Unicoi and Washington counties over a three-day race weekend.

The three races include the Roan Groan, Time Trial and “Criterium.”

Johnson city officials came out today to kick off the race and encourage community members to come watch the races.

“We know you’re going to be challenged by the courses you’ll be riding while you’re here, and I just want to invite all of the community to come out. This is a very unique event,” race director Reneau Dubberly said.

The races are free for the public to watch.

No tickets are required.

The first race begins Saturday morning in Roan Mountain.
