Ballad Health hosts annual 5K and Power of Health expo

BRISTOL (WJHL) — Ballad Health’s Health Expo and Power of Play 5K is set to kick off Saturday. The two events are the result of a partnership with Ballad Health, Bristol Tennessee City Schools and Bristol Virginia Public Schools to promote good health. 

All of the proceeds from Saturday’s event will allow for additional funding for the physical education programs in both school systems. Along with items such as playground equipment, curriculum and professional development.

“This is one of my favorite events. It’s great seeing the community really come together to learn more about the benefits of physical activity while supporting physical education for our local kids,” said Greg Neal, chief executive officer of Bristol Regional and Ballad Health’s northeast market. “I want to encourage everyone to come out and take part in this great day.”

During the health expo attendees will be able to get the chance to win a giveaway. Along with meeting with vendors and regional health experts who will provide attendees with beneficial health-related information. 

Ballad Health will be at the expo and will be providing free services. Those services are heart and vascular screenings to anyone 45 and older and mammograms. Space is limited for screening and those who are interested should contact Ballad Health Nurse Connect at 1-833-8-BALLAD (822-5523) to register.

Those participating in the 5K will receive a coupon for a free cardiac calcium screening at Bristol Regional. Cardiac calcium screening’s uses a CT scanner to detect the amount of plaque in them and show whether someone has developed heart disease.

Those interested in running in the 5K can register online. Tickets for timed races are $25, while the untimed race is $20. Participants who are in elementary, middle school and high school students only have to pay $15. Those who pre-register for the 5K will also receive a Power of Health shirt.

This annual event will be held on Saturday, April 27, from 8 a.m. to noon at Bristol Regional Medical Center. The expo portion will take place in the hospital’s conference center. The 5K takes place right outside the hospital’s main entrance. The race begins at 9 a.m.
