12 people evacuated, ‘some animals’ lost in Kingsport apartment fire

UPDATE (5:30 p.m.)– Fire officials on scene told News Channel 11 Thursday afternoon that 12 people were evacuated from Aspen Ridge Apartments due to a fire.

They also said some animals were killed.

The American Red Cross of Northeast Tennessee is assisting those affected by the fire. The Red Cross says Bojangles on West Stone Drive donated food for first responders on scene.

News Channel 11 still has a crew on scene working to gather the latest information.

KINGSPORT, Tenn. (WJHL) – Emergency crews are on the scene of an apartment fire in Kingsport. 

The fire is at an apartment complex off Union Street, near the interchange of Interstate 26 and Stone Drive. 

Officials say no injuries have been reported at this time, but the structure is “fully involved.”

We’re told all but one Kingsport fire crew is on scene. 

Officials say windy conditions and a water supply issue is causing problems with fighting the fire.
