VSP: Georgia man dies in multi-vehicle crash in Pulaski, VA on Interstate 81

UPDATE (11:25 a.m.) - Virginia State Police investigators have  identified the person who died in a multi-vehicle crash last night on I-81 in Virginia. 

According to VSP, Ronald W. Harris, 73, of Gainesville, Georgia, died after he lost control 1991 Oshkosh M1074 on I-81 when lost due to slick road conditions. 

His vehicle lost control and struck two southbound tractor-trailers. 

The impact of the crash caused the other tractor-trailer to run off left side of the highway, continue through the median, through the guardrail, cross over northbound lanes of I-81 and strike a fence. 

The crash is still under investigation. 


UPDATE (1/12/19 10:17 P.M.) -- (WFXR)- Virginia State Police confirmed Saturday night one person died in a crash on I-81 in Pulaski County.

VSP officials responded to that crash around 8:51p.m.and said that it involved three tractor-trailers at the 89 mile-marker in the southbound lanes of I-81. 

A crash reconstruction team responded to the scene to assist with the ongoing investigation. 

VSP Public Relations Director, Corinne Gellar, said it was still unknown Saturday night if weather was a factor in the cause of that crash on I-81. 


PREVIOUS STORY: According to VDOT 511, a tractor trailer crash is clogging Interstate 81 in both directions. 

The tractor trailer is stuck in the median of the highway, shutting down the North and South left lanes at mile marker 89.
