95-year-old groom, 81-year-old bride marry in Sneedville

SNEEDVILLE, Tenn. (WATE) - A special wedding happened Saturday in Sneedville.

The groom is 95, and his bride is 81.

Margaret McCoy and Oliver Stilson's love story started at Duck Creek Baptist Church. That's where a new chapter unfolded Saturday.

"She's a good Christian lady, and we're going to be happy as two bugs in a rug," said Stilson.

The day, a few months in the making for the couple.

"I sat by a lady that she made a quilt for, so she told me that she couldn't give her one and not give me one because I was sitting right beside her. So she gave me one, I looked at it and said to myself 'why did she do that,'" Stilson said.

So the next week:

"Here he comes up the aisle walking with a piece of paper with his phone number on it and a little shoe he had carved, a little old-fashioned baby shoe. And he says I have to give you a gift, you gave me a gift. And he said my name is Ollie or Oliver, and he said will you go out with me to dinner," said McCoy.

"To my surprise, she said yes," said Stilson.

"We went out about 3 or 4 times and we fell in love. We just fell in love immediately," McCoy said.

Margaret and Oliver knew they couldn't live without each other, deciding to spend the rest of their lives as husband and wife.

"We love one another. We just could no longer stay apart. We just didn't want to part when it come time to go home after a date," McCoy said.

Proving love has no age limit.

"There is still love out there for you. There is still hope, if you seek that love of another person I think it can still happen for them," the best man, Patrick Creaden said.

Now the happy couple is looking forward to all that married life will bring.

"Working together, cooking together, loving together. I can't say enough that I like about her. She's great," said Stilson.

"We're going to be very, very happy," McCoy said.

In case you were wondering, before Saturday, Margaret had been widowed for 14 years, and Oliver for 11.

Now, the happy couple is planning a honeymoon trip to Michigan next summer.
