Experienced NHRA driver Tommy Johnson Junior currently sits fourth in the Funny Car Division and looks to continue that success at the Thunder Valley Nationals at Bristol next week.
Johnson Junior has raced well at Bristol in the past, chalking up an IHRA victory in the late 80’s and two NHRA wins as well. The racer said he welcomes the challenges Bristol Motor Speedway presents.
“With the race track, the temperatures are getting up there, it makes it hard to get a hold of and grip, but for me it’s one of my favorite tracks,” Johnson Junior said. “So, for me when I come here as a drag driver I feel comfortable and relaxed, whereas other guys seem to be fighting it because it’s so much different, a little bit of altitude and the hot conditions and I kind of relish in those hot conditions because it’s a place where you’ve had a lot of success, so you look forward to it.”
Thunder Valley Nationals start on Friday at 10 a.m. with the final event taking place Sunday afternoon.
