History was on the line Wednesday night in Gate City when senior Mac McClung the Georgetown Hoya signee was 32 points shy of breaking Allen Iverson’s record for most Virginia high school points scored in a single season.

Here’s the guy they came to see Mac McClung who had a chance to rewrite the Virginia state record books tonight.

McClung needed 32 points against Lebanon in his final home game and he didn’t disappoint when he causes the steal and then goes in for the double pump slam dunk on the other end, he had 15 in the first half.

The record was 982 set by Iverson over 20 years ago, McClung got that and then some slamming his way to 41 points  and breaking the record

Gate City won easily 80-43. Afterwards McClung who was mobbed by fans and autograph seekers talked to us about the record.

“You know the record was, it wasn’t something I was really focused on, but to do it here if I’m going to do it you know it was awesome. It was such a great atmosphere, I think this is the best atmosphere in high school sports.”
