ETSU signs on new recruiting class on National Signing Day

ETSU spent the day signing on new recruits for the Buccaneer’s 28-man signing class. Buccaneer head football coach Randy Sanders says he wants guys to play for four years and doesn’t want to build a team with just guys who will play for one or two years.

“We are excited about this signing class,” said Sanders. “There were a lot of positions to fill after graduating a large senior class, and we feel this group addresses those needs. This class features a lot of speed, athleticism and size, and it will create competition at  various positions.

Of the 28 signees, nine are from Tennessee, seven via Georgia, three from North Carolina, two from Florida and Ohio, and one each from Alabama, Kentucky, South Carolina, Virginia and West Virginia.

“I had 33 guys go through Senior Day, so I had a lot of spots on my roster to fill. I love maturity. If you a can get transfers that can come in bring some maturity and bring experience to the program, that’s a great thing. High schoolers are here four years and they are able to play for four years. There is no question that I want to win. I want to win right now,” said Sanders. “But to build a program to where I want it to be — that’s going to be able to maintain and to sustain. And you don’t do that by taking one or two year guys all the time. It’s nice to have one or two two-year guys that can fill holes… but over the long-term,  if I can get guys into my program for four years we will be much better off in the long run. “
