ETSU @ Mercer: What you need to know


JOHNSON CITY (WJHL) – The ETSU Buccaneers will travel to Macon, Ga. Saturday to take on the Mercer Bears.

After last weekend’s thrilling triple-overtime win against Western Carolina, the so-called “Cardiac Bucs” have advanced to No. 22 in the FCS STATS poll and No. 23 in the FCS coaches poll. With a 5-1 record against conference opponents, ETSU is tied with Wofford for top team in the Southern Conference. 

They are undefeated at home. 

The Bucs are one of eight FCS teams that have accomplished at least seven wins this season. 

Here’s what you need to know ahead of Saturday’s game:

About Mercer
Mercer is coming off a 21-42 loss to No. 7 Wofford. With a 3-2 conference record, the Bears defeated No. 9 Samford 30-24, VMI 48-38, and Western Carolina 59-46. They suffered losses to Wofford and The Citadel (31-38).

They are 4-4 overall.

Last year, ETSU beat Mercer in overtime 26-23 in Johnson City. In 2016, the Bears beat the Bucs 21-13 in Macon.

The Bucs will have a bye week before taking on Samford on Saturday, November 17 in the final home game of the regular season.
