ETSU football head coach Carl Torbush and his staff announced the addition of four recruits to the Buccaneers’ 2015 roster on Wednesday. Jovany Aris (Boynton Beach, Fla.), Falon Lee (Macclenny, Fla.), Tavian Lott (D’Lo, Miss.) and Artevius Smith (Birmingham, Ala.) have all signed their athletic grant-in-aid forms.

Aris, Lee and Lott are transferring to ETSU, while Smith graduated from Clay-Chalkville High School this past spring.

“We are very fortunate to sign four quality student-athletes this late in the process,” said coach Torbush. “These four players have the chance to give us immediate help this year.”

Below is a breakdown of the recruits and a quote from Coach Torbush…

Jovany Aris – WR – Boynton Beach, Fla. (Atlantic Community High School/College of Desert)

  • Transferring to ETSU after playing one season at College of Desert
  • Led the Roadrunners with 39 receptions in 2014, while totaling 347 receiving yards and two touchdowns (also rushed for one touchdown)
  • Had 233 all-purpose yards (140 return, 75 receiving and 18 rushing yards) against Mt. San Jacinto on Nov. 15
  • Eclipsed over 100 total all-purpose yards four times in nine games as a freshman

Coach Torbush on Aris…

“Jovany is a dynamic and versatile football player. He has great ability to run, catch and return kicks.”

Coach Rader on Aris…

“Jovany is a playmaker. As we watched his high school and JUCO film, Jovany showed he was able to make things happen when the ball was in his hands. He’s hungry and excited to be given this opportunity to attend ETSU. Jovany brings an element of maturity to our locker room.”

Falon Lee – RB – Macclenny, Fla. (Baker County High School/Miami (Ohio) University)

  • Transferring to ETSU from Miami (Ohio) University
  • Broke three school records during his senior season at Baker County – most carries (224), rushing yards (2,076) and touchdowns (25)
  • Named first team all-state and all-district as a senior, while being a finalist for the Army Iron Man award
  • Led the Wildcats to the 2012 district championship
  • Participated in track and field, recording a mark of 6-6 in the high jump

Coach Torbush on Lee…

“Falon brings experience and maturity to our running back position. He played as a true freshman at Miami (Ohio) until an injury took him out of the rotation. Falon is a strong runner and has excellent vision.”

Coach Losey on Lee…

“We are very happy to have Falon at ETSU. He’s another player we brought into our program that will be a benefit to us as a football player and a person. Falon is a big, powerful back that can run the ball. He’s also strong and has good change of direction. He comes from a very competitive high school and was one of three running backs from the state of Florida to rush for over 2,000 yards in his senior season.”

Tavian Lott – CB – D’Lo, Miss. (Arlington High School/Snow College)

  • Played two seasons at Snow College before transferring to ETSU
  • Named one of the top JUCO recruits by ESPN
  • 3-Star recruit according to Rivals and 247 Sports
  • Tabbed Western States Football League all-conference honorable mention in 2014
  • Finished with 25 tackles (14 solo) and two interceptions for the Badgers in 2014
  • Tallied five tackles and had an 89-yard interception return for a touchdown in a 42-6 win over Phoenix on Sept. 27
  • Recorded five tackles and recovered a fumble in a 73-6 win over Pima on Oct. 18
  • Multi-sport athlete at Arlington High School where he lettered in football and track and field for the Tigers
  • Finished with 11 interceptions in his final two seasons at Arlington

Coach Torbush on Lott…

“Tavian has outstanding size and athleticism. He will give us added depth to the cornerback position. We are very fortunate to sign a player of his caliber this late in the process.”

Coach Gaines on Lott…

“We are glad Tavian is a Buc. He comes in with experience after playing the last two seasons at Snow College, which is what we need. Tavian runs well and has great ball skills. I definitely think he can come in and help us right way. I look forward to coaching him.”

Artevius Smith – Athlete – Birmingham, Ala. (Clay-Chalkville HS)

  • Multi-sport athlete as he lettered in football and track at Clay-Chalkville High School
  • Primarily a cornerback for the Cougars; Recorded 706 rushing yards and nine touchdowns in only four games as the starting running back for Clay-Chalkville
  • Helped guide Clay-Chalkville to the 2014 6A State Championship; Cougars finished with a perfect 15-0 record
  • Named Fox 6 Sideline Player of the Week and Blitz Player of the Week
  • Two-time first team all-state performer in track (long/triple jump)

Coach Torbush on Smith…

“Artevius is a young man who started at cornerback as an underclassman, but moved to running back late in his senior season. He comes from a winning program, as Artevius helped lead Clay-Chalkville to a state championship this past season.”

Coach Rader on Artevius…

“I’ve recruited players from Clay-Chalkville for many years and it was unique how we found Artevius. Their starting running back – who was an SEC type player – got hurt and Artevius took over late in the season… That’s when he racked up the impressive numbers. Artevius wasn’t on anyone’s radar going into his senior year, but he took advantage of an opportunity and made the most of it. Like Jovany, Artevius has the hunger and excitement to prove himself on the field. He comes from a strong high school program where he was coached, pushed and gained experience by playing against successful teams.”
