JOHNSON CITY, TN- Sophomore Erica Haynes-Overton (Nashville, Tenn.) was named the College Sports Madness Player of the Week for the SoCon, for her outstanding performances against UNCG and Western Carolina this past week.
In two games, Haynes-Overton averaged 29.5 points, 6.5 rebounds, had a .588 field goal percentage and a .938 free throw percentage.
Against UNCG, the Nashville native led all scorers with 28 points. She was 2-2 from beyond the arc, 4-4 on the free throw line and also had five rebounds. She had another dominant performance against Western Carolina, finishing with 31 points, shot 50 percent from the field, went 2-3 from beyond the arc, and 11-12 at the free throw line. Haynes-Overton also led the Bucs with eight rebounds, seven assists, and three steals. She was four points away from tying her career-high 35 points. Haynes-Overton also made the two free throws that would tie the game, sending it into overtime when they defeated the Catamounts 88-80.
Haynes-Overton and the rest of the Bucs return to action this Saturday, Feb. 9 in Brooks Gym, when the Bucs host the rival Chattanooga Mocs. Tipoff is set for 2:00 p.m.
