Daniel Boone’s star running back powered the Blazers to an upset win Friday
It had been years since Daniel Boone had defeated Science Hill and the Blazers decided that was long enough.
“We knew it was going to be a tough game and we knew it was going to be very close. i’m just happy for the win.”
Boone earned a 35-28 win Friday behind junior running back Charlie Cole, who rushed for 316 yards and 3 scores.
“Offensive line, of course, blocked amazing. Easton made great reads and they opened up. they pushed whenever i said hey boys it’s time to finish.”
“He breaks the line of scrimmage, good chance he’s gone. that’s the big thing with him this year, he’s really worked on his speed. great person to have on your team and we’re glad we don’t have to tackle him.”
Boone came close to snapping the streak two years ago, but fell in a heartbreaker to Science Hill 19-14. with that loss in their minds, Jenkins fired his team up at the half to ensure they wouldn’t be riding the bus home this time around with their heads down.
“We told them at halftime you’ve got 24 minutes, which is not even an Andy Griffith episode, 24 minutes but you’ve got a lifetime to remember it.”
“One of the best feelings that you could probably feel in a lifetime. as coach said, we’ll remember this for a lifetime.”
“Charlie, on behalf of Watauga Orthopaedics and Champion Chevrolet, congratulation on being selected as the player of the week.”
