SPARTANBURG, S.C. (May 5, 2016) – ETSU men’s tennis player David Biosca (Sant Fruitos De Bage, Spain) was named the Southern Conference Men’s Tennis Player of the Month for April by the league office Thursday. It marks the second straight season that Biosca has won the award in April.

“Quite a year this young man has had thus far,” ETSU Head Coach Yaser Zaatini said. “In the first five to six matches this season he played with an abdominal pull and fought through it. He never once complained and he is the ultimate team player. Very well deserved.”

Biosca, who was named the SoCon Player of the Year earlier this month, went a perfect 9-0 combined in singles and doubles action last month. Additionally, Biosca played all of the matches out of the No. 1 position in both singles and doubles.

The Sant Fruitos De Bage, Spain native has a record of 16-4 in singles and 11-5 in doubles with partner Rogerio Ribeiro (Sao Paulo, Brazil). Biosca currently is the No. 74 in the latest Oracle/ITA National Singles rankings, while he and Ribeiro are ranked 61st in doubles.

Biosca and the rest of the Buccaneers will return to action May 13 in the first round of the NCAA Tournament when they take on Michigan in Winston Salem, N.C. The match against the Wolverines is scheduled to begin at noon.

Early Thursday morning Biosca was selected by NCAA Selection subcommittee to take part in the 2016 NCAA Division I Men’s Tennis Championships, which follows the team tournament. In addition to taking part in the singles tournament, Biosca will be joined by Ribeiro to take part in the doubles tournament as well. The singles and doubles competition will be conducted May 25-30 at the Case Tennis Center in Tulsa, Oklahoma.

“David will be the first ETSU player to participate in the NCAA Tournament in singles, doubles and as a team in program history so that is a solid example of what he has accomplished,” said Zaatini. “Congrats to Rogerio as well for being part of the first team ever from ETSU to make the doubles field in the NCAAs. I’m so proud of these guys and the whole team.”
