Washington County, VA forest fire still burning, under control


WASHINGTON COUNTY, VA (WJHL)- Saturday night members of the Goodson Kinderhook Volunteer Fire Department were on scene of a forest fire in the Mendota area of Washington County, Virginia.

Fire officials with that volunteer department said as of Sunday morning they had been relieved of their duties on scene as the fire was still burning, but under control.

Crews with Goodson Kinderhook also said the Virginia Department of Forestry was still at the scene of the fire located off of Pinnacle Road, keeping an eye on the situation.

We also reached out to Washington County, Virginia Sheriff Fred Newman who said as of Saturday night the fire had burned at least 11 acres.
