The Virginia State Police is investigating a deadly crash in Smyth County.

According to VSP, the crash happened on Interstate 81 near mile marker 53 Sunday.

Investigators say there were five people in the SUV, two adults and three children. VSP troopers say the SUV ran off the left side of the highway, into the median, across the south bound lanes, and then overturned before hitting a guardrail.

Neither the driver, Kanda Foster, 39, or front seat passenger, Anthony Harris, 37, were wearing their seatbelts. They were both taken to Smyth County Community Hospital.

One of the children in the backseat, Alana Harris, 7, was not wearing a seat belt and was ejected from the SUV. She was taken to Smyth County Community Hospital where she later died.

Tatiana Urbina, 10, was also not wearing a seat belt and ejected. She was taken to Johnson City Medical Center and being treated for serious injuries.

Sammy Urbina, 14, was wearing a seat belt. He was taken to Bristol Regional Medical Center and is being treated for serious injuries.

Alana Harris was the daughter of front seat passenger Anthony Harris. The Urbina siblings are the children of the driver.

Everyone in the SUV is from San Angelo, Texas.

Foster was charged with reckless driving and failing to secure a child in a seat belt.

Investigators say fatigue was a factor in the crash. VSP is still investigating.Copyright WJHL 2015. All rights reserved.
