Virginia man sentenced to 60 years for first-degree murder charge

A Washington County, Virginia Circuit Court has handed down a sentence for a man charged with first-degree murder. 

According to the circuit court office, James Joseph Canter was sentenced to 60 years for first-degree murder and another three years for use of a firearm “in the commission of a felony.” 

Court officials say the time will be served consecutively. 

He is being charged for killing Asheligh Langbein, an Emory & Henry College student.
