James Shaw, the man who wrestled a rifle away from the accused Antioch Waffle House shooter earlier this year, will be honored during this year’s annual Nashville Christmas parade.

The announcement came less than 24 hours before the parade makes its way through the streets of downtown Nashville after a fall out involving Kid Rock, who was previously named grand marshal of the parade.

Late Friday afternoon, parade organizers released a statement that said, “The 65th Nashville Christmas Parade on Saturday, December 1 will not feature Kid Rock, who had previously volunteered to serve as its grand marshal.  Parade organizers feel that the grand marshal should personify the spirit of the Nashville community and have invited James Shaw, Jr., who became a community hero after stopping a shooting at a local Waffle House earlier this year, to be honored.  The parade is a fun family tradition that also raises money for worthy charitable causes. We appreciate the hundreds of community volunteers who are working hard to make this year’s parade another great event.”

Prior to the announcement about Shaw being honored, Nashville Mayor David Briley said he was “leaning toward” skipping the event if Kid Rock remained the grand marshal.

The mayor’s remarks came several hours after Kid Rock appeared on “Fox and Friends” live from his new honky tonk in downtown Nashville.

While on the show, he called longtime ABC co-host of “The View” Joy Behar a b**** and said people need to “get a little less politically correct,” according to CNN.

“People need to calm down, get a little less politically correct and I would say you know, love everybody. Except, screw that Joy Behar b****,” Kid Rock said.

“The View” responded a few hours later via Twitter, saying, “@JoyVBehar responds to Kid Rock’s comments about her said on Fox News this morning: “This b**** and these b****** will be happy to have you on the show and have a beer.”

Prior to Shaw being named grand marshal, Metro Councilman Freddie O’Connell said he would not participate in Saturday’s parade due to Kid Rock’s role.

In a tweet, he wrote, “I will not be participating in tomorrow’s Nashville Christmas parade. The choice of Grand Marshal evokes neither the spirit of Christmas nor the inclusivity I think represents the best of Nashville.”
