GRAYSON COUNTY, VA (WJHL) – We are getting new details now on the search for a man wanted in connection with a double shooting in Grayson County, Virginia.

Authorities with the Grayson County Sheriff’s office tell us that deputies responded to a shooting call on Terri Lane in Galax, Virginia just after 8:00 AM on Sunday.

Upon arrival Deputies found David Patton of Pulaski and Karen Cates of Galax with apparent gunshot wounds.  Patton and Cates were taken transported to Twin County Hospital in Galax.

Cates was later transported to Baptist Medical Center in Winston Salem NC where she remains in critical condition.  Patton was treated and released.

Authorities say the suspect, 52-year-old Greyling “Beany” Davis, is an estranged boyfriend of Cates.  Davis knocked on the door of Cates residence on Terri Lane in Galax, Virginia around 1:30 AM Sunday.  There was a protective order in effect prohibiting any contact between Davis and Cates.  Cates went to the magistrate’s office and obtained warrants on Davis for violation of the protective order.

Shortly before 8:00 a.m., Davis returned to Terri Lane, found Patton outside of the residence smoking a cigarette and forced him back into the residence at gun point.  Once inside the residence Davis shot both Patton and Cates.

Police say Greyling “Beany” Davis should be considered armed and dangerous.  Davis is operating a 2006 white Chevrolet Cobalt with Virginia tag MP-1330.

Anyone with information about the whereabouts of Davis should contact the Grayson County Sheriff’s Office at 276-773-3241.Copyright 2016 WJHL. All rights reserved.
