WICHITA, Kansas (KSN) – The U.S. attorney’s office says a disruptive passenger who forced the diversion of an American Airlines flight will face federal charges.
Spokesman Jim Cross says the passenger will be charged Wednesday.
American Airlines says Flight 622 from Phoenix to New York was sent to Wichita on Tuesday evening because of the unruly passenger. The airline said in an email Wednesday that law enforcement met the flight and took the passenger into custody.
According to arrest records, Jason Baroletti of Holbrook, New York was removed from the flight and arrested on local charges of criminal threat, cause terror, and evacuation or disruption. He was booked into the Sedgwick County Jail.
Officials KSN spoke to did confirm, however, that Baroletti had threatened passengers on the flight.
The plane had 126 passengers and five crew members on board. The flight was delayed for about 40 minutes before it continued onto New York.
The Augustines, who were aboard the flight, tweeted out the following messages.
