Topeka Zoo tiger attacks, hospitalizes trainer

A Topeka Zoo tiger attacked a trainer inside his enclosure Saturday morning.

Male Sumatran tiger Sanjiv sent the trainer to a local hospital with life-threatening injuries. City of Topeka spokeswoman Molly Hadfield said the keeper was alert as she was being transported to the hospital. The zoo will not euthanize Sanjiv as of now.

The zoo was temporarily closed after the incident but reopened around 11 a.m. All of the tigers have been pulled from their public enclosures for the day.
