It’s been a good day for former Science Hill Hilltoppers, in the major league baseball draft. Reed Hayes, Will Carter and Matt Pope each heard their named called today.

Carter, who currently plays at Alabama was originally drafted last season 35th by the Texas rangers, but today the right handed pitcher was drafted in the 14th round with the 423rd pick by the New York Yankees.

And former Toppers and Walters State Community college pitcher Reed Hayes was taken off the board in the 28th round with the 849th pick by the Kansas City Royals.

His teammate Matt Pope also watched his stock improve from the 39th round coming out of Science Hill to the 13th round

the Walter State right handed pitcher was chosen with the 396th pick to the San Francisco giants… he could transfer to another college, but right now he’s leaning towards coming out.

Also today the Chicago White Sox select Richlands Bradley Strong of Western Carolina University in 28th round…. He’s the first ex-blue Tornado to be drafted since 2000.
