JOHNSON CITY, TN (WJHL) – Holiday lovers across the Tri-Cities were in for a treat tonight at The Mall at Johnson City.
The mall’s first ever Christmas tree lighting lit up the sky Saturday evening as hundreds of people came out for a fun filled evening.
At 21 feet high the tree is a whopping 6,000 pounds and came from the same nursery in Maryland that supplies trees to the White House.
Johnson City native and Detroit Tigers baseball player, Daniel Norris, came down for the event and he even lit the tree.
“Just getting back in the mountai
ns, being back in Johnson City, you know where I grew up, being with family it’s very special to me and it will always be home in my heart,” Norris said.
The night included inflatables, cookies, a train and characters. Organizers said they hope to make this event a tradition.Copyright 2016 WJHL. All rights reserved.
